Research Interests

Sezione di Fisica Medica is devoted to Molecular Dynamics of medium to big size molecules, and to Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy as an experimental tool for studying molecular conformation, configuration and dynamics. Three main lines are active:

1) VIBRATIONAL CIRCULAR DICHROISM
in the Near Infrared-Visible Range. Molecules under study: Terpenes, Essential Oils, Cyclic Ketones, Carbohydrates

2) MOLECULAR DYNAMICS & SEMICLASSICAL QUANTIZATION.
Use of numerical and graphical methods, like the Poincarč Surfaces of Section and Fourier Transform techniques to study
2.a) the mobility of the glycosidic linkage in Disaccharides,
2.b) the CH-stretching dynamics of ring molecules (expecially those possessing large amplitude puckering modes).
Study of semiclassical quantization rules for CH-stretching systems, exhibiting multiple resonances and moderate chaos.

3) CIRCULAR DICHROISM OF POLYMERS.
Conformational Studies of polyalkylthiophenes in solution from 600 to 200 nm. Conformational studies of polyacrylamides from 300 to 180 nm.

Instrumentation

1)JASCO J500 Spectropolarimeter (Spectral Range: 700-180 nm)

2) Local network of three P.C.. Software used: home- made Molecular Dynamics and Fourier Transform programs.
